ECOVIDA is an integrated waste to energy project with elements of sustainable social and economic development
ECOVIDA GLOBAL INC. is a 501 (3)(c) non-profit created out of the integration of two entities committed to making state-of-the-art eco-technology available to small and medium sized communities, along with opportunities for social and economic development.
FUVAAL-COOVIVI is a regional think-tank dedicated to finding solutions to engrained problems such as the housing deficit and the lack of stable job opportunities.
PROTERRABIO is an international company which focuses on the bio-conversion and bio-refining of organic wastes, providing the technology for the production of energy from renewable sources and bio-fertilizers among other products.
MISSION:
To bring to small and medium sized communities state-of-the-art eco-technology which is normally out of their budget range.
To back these technologies with continual scientific and technical investigation and development, where possible, in direct collaboration with the communities.
To contribute to the mitigation of the effects of global climate change environmental contamination, and desertification.
To create a platform for the generation of social benefits and economic development including the most vulnerable members of the community by returning income to the community in the form of royalties, public works, scholarships, seed financing of related businesses and work cooperatives, cooperation in investigation and development with local academic institutions, public education in environmental matters and financing low income housing especially for informal sector workers.
BUSINESS MODEL:
ECOVIDA uses a novel business model which lays heavy emphasis on sharing benefits with the local community.
It creates sustainable social, economic and technological development, opening opportunities for successive waves of future social benefits and further opportunities for economic development.
The model can be scaled up or down according to the amount of available feed-stock and can be easily replicated with adjustments for local needs, situations and culture.
The project has built-in sustainability and scalability factors as well as sound economic, environmental, social and governance criteria.
TECHNOLOGICAL PROPOSAL:
A line of integrated plants applying proprietary and patented technologies for the conversion of all types of waste, solid, liquid, non-organic, rubble etc. even the contents of existing tips.
Integrated state-of-the-art eco-technologies which have proven in use over numerous years and in various countries which produce a variety of top quality sub-products at the most reasonable cost.
The design has the flexibility to add on or to remove functions, to increase the size and capacity of the plant by modules and the capacity to incorporate updates resulting from continual research and investigation.
The plant will be built and operated by ECOVIDA using the maximum possible of local suppliers, contractors and labor.
The plant is scalable upwards from 200 tons/ day MSW.
ENVIRONMEMTAL BENEFITS:
DESERTIFICATION: Salvaging water from waste, recycling process water, purifying sanitation water etc. The bio-fertilizer increases the root mass up to 5 times, reducing the need for irrigation water.
GREENHOUSE GASES: The processes are enclosed & odorless, all potential pollutants in waste are converted into useful sub-products; the bio-fertilizer holds CO2 in the soil; in later plants, the emissions from electricity generation will be recycled.
RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT: The project is designed for later incorporation of results from continual R&D; ProterraBio finances investigation via a private company with links to academic institutions specializing in bio-technology; proposals to create inter-change and investigation opportunities with local and national institutions.
SOCIO-ECONOMIC PROPOSAL:
The creation of pay-rolled job places in the plants and more direct and indirect jobs in related activities.
The training and reinsertion of waste-pickers and informal recyclers including a program of directed self-building of decent, durable housing.
Seed financing of small businesses and cooperatives in related activities.
Investment by ECOVIDA in a building materials cooperative, a directed sweat equity building cooperative and a small business, organic cultivation in greenhouses, as a living demonstration of the properties of the ProterraBio bio-fertilizers.
Royalties to be paid out of net income to the municipality to invest in infrastructure and community projects and seed financing for social factories, cooperatives and small businesses in related activities to be administered through the trust, including to the housing cooperative COOVIVI.
The construction of an ECOCENTRO – a center for the education of the general public in environmental subjects.
Agreements for bio-technology investigation and research with both national and foreign academic institutions.
